AOHCC Annual Convention – November 3-7, 2021

Aloha Kalihi-Palama HCC members,

As challenging as it has been in year 2020, it is our hope that our aloha and support for each other lives on.  I and Jack McKeague have volunteered to assist our Pelekikena to prepare for the upcoming 2021 Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs Annual Convention on O’ahu in November.  We will share in the kuleana of preparing our club members to participate, advocate, and engage in discussions at the convention that is important to our club, community, resources, and lahui wellbeing.

We encourage returning members and new members to consider in representing our club as a delegate or alternate at the annual convention in Waikiki.  As usual, there are many things that are required of all participating Hawaiian civic clubs.  Announcements and reminders will be ongoing to our club members.

Here is a brief update from the AOHCC’s website:

Dexter Ke‘ala Soares, Second Elected President of Kalihi-Palama Hawaiian Civic Club

Dexter Soares

Dexter Ke‘ala Soares, left, with his daughter and wife, 2015.

Aloha Kalihi Palama Hawaiian Civic Club Members,

It is with heavy heart that we advise you of the passing of Dexter Soares, the second elected president of the Kalihi Palama HCC, on April 22, 2021.

He and our first president, Aunty Sue Pine, led us through our first 40 years. Loving, caring, committed, they always looked after our club and members.

Even in recent years, Dexter would call with a word of encouragement and just to see how everyone was doing. He also participated in our cultural exhibits at ‘Iolani Palace events. He was a master Ipu craftsman.

Please remember Dexter and his family in your prayers. Condolences may be expressed at  DexterKealaSoaresMemorial@gmail.com. Private services were held.

Juanita
