Just a friendly reminder. Kalihi Palama HCC Dues for 2022 were due in June. If you have not paid your dues, kindly request that you send a check for $15 payable to Kalihi Palama HCC and mail to our Treasurer, Keith Fernandez, 250 Kawaihae St #205, Honolulu HI 96825, or if you prefer, use Pay Pal and submit $16.00 ($15 for dues; $1.00 for PP fees).

Payment of the dues are especially important for 2022 as the AHCC Convention is being held in Seattle, Washington and our club is covering the registration cost of 11 delegates and four days of the hotel cost for the President’s Room at which club members gather to hold discussions and a car rental. Club members are paying out of their own pocket the costs for hotel, air and ground travel, and meals. However, if sufficient dues and donations are made, every effort will be made to cover partial payment for meals. These members are hard working and will represent our voices on resolutions on important matters to the Native Hawaiian community.
Additionally, we have made every effort to keep you informed through emails about matters of importance to the Native Hawaiian community and represented you at the AHCC Policy & Planning workshop meetings on the proposed amendments to the AHCC Constitution and Bylaws. Through our advocacy work this past year, the Governor recognized our club by inviting our leadership to three events, one on the 175th anniversary of Washington Place for which we introduced and got adopted a congratulatory resolution at the last AHCC convention; at the signing of three bills, one concerning the Mauna Kea Managing Authority, for which our club had nominated and saw appointment of several of our nominees to the task force; another concerning the bill appropriations for DHHL; and still another, recognizing Lā Ho’i Ho’i ‘Ea that designated Nov 28 of each year as Lā Ku’oko’a Hawaiian Recognition Day. Additionally, leadership of our club got the Democratic Party of Hawaii to adopt several of our resolutions concerning housing and agriculture.
For the remainder of 2022 and 2023, we shall continue this good work and will plan to hold meetings with our membership more often. For the first few months of this year, it’s been difficult because of competing priorities. However, we should be back on track with holding meetings and hopefully do a couple cultural workshops, such as learning how to do a kahili, so as to replace two damaged Kahili at Mauna’ala; and the possibility of another cultural event of learning how to do ka’eke’eke and learning mele that goes with the use of the ka’eke’eke; and actively participating in the restoration of the Lo’i Kalo/Niuhelewai in Kalihi.
Your membership dues helps our club to do this kind of work.
Please consider renewing your membership. Donations are also welcomed since our efforts to do fund raising has been limited by COVID.
