Lā Ho‘iho‘i Ēā Kalihi Palama HCC Fundraiser

Lā Ho‘iho‘i Ēā will be celebrated at Thomas Square on July 30-31. There will be room for food tents and exhibits. I wondered if our club would like to use this event as a fundraiser. I understand at the last club meeting members were interested in such a fundraiser.

We’d have to have insurance which I could check with Hawaii Maoli if they’d cover us, plus tent, table and chairs. I need to catch up with everyone on what we have available.

Also, we have a few cultural demonstrators so let me know if interested in demonstrating, plus you can sell your items. Depending on the number interested, maybe we’d be able to accommodate our members under one tent (Dexter, Betty, Cissy, Ladd??)

Rental space for food tent is $50 to help offset costs for the event. First come-first served so last me know right away if interested.

New member, Juanita Kawamoto, who works for Noa Noa said they’d be willing to partner with us on a tent selling their clothes, with 10% of all proceeds going to our club. At Waimānalo, this produced about $200 for our club.

In any case, I want to encourage our support and participation in this event, not only to exhibit, but possibly also to hold some educational discussions on Hawaiian issues. In past, we had a beautiful presentation by Kalani Akana on chants from Queen Liliʻuokalani’s era.
